Volleyball Snaps Skid with 3-0 Win Against Saint P

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -
The Fairfield University volleyball team snapped a three-match skid with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 25-19) win over Saint Peter's University this afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action in Alumni Hall.

Sophomore Hadley Orr had 11 kills on .348 hitting and six digs while junior Caitlin Stapleton posted 10 kills, including the 700th of her career, and three total blocks.

Senior Hayley Moyer had eight kills on .538 with two total blocks while junior Marilyn Peizer added eight kills, three digs, and two aces. Junior Lindsay Weaver added seven kills on .364 hitting, four digs, and three total blocks.

Senior Rachel Romansky finished with 36 assists, nine digs, four kills, and two total blocks. With her digs, Romansky moved her career total to 974 and she is now 26 away from 1,000 digs. Freshman Bella Guanciale tallied 15 digs and two assists.

The first set was close with nine ties and four lead changes. With the score tied at 22-22, the Stags recorded two quick points to set-up game point. After a service error by the Fairfield, Laura Reinhart tied it, 24-24, with a kill for Saint Peter's. After exchanging points, a kill by Romansky gave the Stags the 27-26 advantage while an attack error by the Peacocks gave Fairfield the 28-26 win.

Fairfield held a slight 8-7 lead in the second set when a big kill by Orr sparked a 10-2 run for the Stags. Fairfield ran away with the set, 25-17. In the third set, the scored was resting at 14-14 when Orr and Moyer delivered back-to-back kills to put the Stags on top. Fairfield was able to hold off Saint Peter's the rest of the way for the 25-19 win.

The Stags hit .344 for the match with 48 kills. Fairfield out-blocked Saint Peter's 5-2 and had a 50-32 advantage in digs. The Peacocks' Stephanie Mills led all players by converting 12 of her 17 attempts for kills without an error.

Fairfield (4-11; 2-3 MAAC) continues its home stand tomorrow, October 6, when Rider University visits at 1pm.
