Volleyball Rolls Over Sacred Heart For Ninth Strai

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -
The Fairfield University volleyball team made it through the month of October undefeated by posting a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-14) victory over crosstown rival Sacred Heart University this evening at Alumni Hall. It was the ninth-straight win for the Stags who improve to 12-11 overall.

Senior Hayley Moyer converted 12 of her 15 attempts for kills without an error and added three digs. Junior Marilyn Peizer recorded 11 kills, extending her double-digit kill streak to nine matches, with four digs and two total blocks.

Senior Rachel Romansky had 25 assists, seven digs, four kills, including the 400th of her career, and two aces, including the 100th of her career. Sophomore Maddie FitzPatrick posted five kills and five total blocks while Caitlin Stapleton added six kills and three total blocks.

Red-shirt senior Carsen Mata had 10 digs and seven aces while rookie Grace Simmons added two aces, and a kill.

The Stags jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start the match, but the Pioneers would work their way back tying the set, 9-9, on a kill by Dianis Mercado. Peizer countered with a kill and ignited a 6-0 run for the Stags. That was all the room they needed as Fairfield cruised to the 25-13 win behind .560 hitting.

The second set was a bit closer with 14 ties and seven lead changes. Neither team led by more than three points during the set. With the score tied 23-23, Moyer put the Stags on top with a kill while Peizer followed with a kill of her own to give the Stags the 25-23 win. Fairfield started the third set with a 9-2 run and never looked back as the Stags posted the 25-14 win.

Fairfield hit .365 with 40 kills while holding Sacred Heart to a .082 attack percentage and 28 kill on the night. The Stags also out-blocked the Pioneers, 5-1. For the Pioneers, Mercado recorded eight kills and 10 digs.

Fairfield, which sits tied atop the MAAC standings with a 9-3 record, takes MAAC play on the road this weekend. The Stags stop at Saint Peter's on November 2 followed by a stop at Rider on November 3.
