Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Quinnipiac University on the road as the Bobcats scored a goal in each half to complete the win. The loss ended Fairfield's three-game unbeaten streak with the Stags posting a 2-0-1 mark during that run.
Fairfield applied most of its offensive pressure in the second half with eight of its nine shots coming in the final 45 minutes of play. The Stags managed one shot in the first half as Quinnipiac's defense appeared to keep the conference's top scoring offense at bay. But despite having only one shot, Fairfield trailed by only one goal at intermission. The team surrendered the game's first goal in the 23rd minute when Brandon Strain-Goode converted a pass from Tobia Esche at 22:05.
In the second half, the Stags had a few chances early in the half but Bobcats goalkeeper Borja Angoitia was equal to the challenge. The junior ended the game by making three saves to record the shutout.
Joe Martin, the Stags' freshman goalkeeper, made two saves as he faced six total shots in 90 minutes. Bob of his saves came in the first half as Quinnipiac did not put a shot on goal over the final 45 minutes. Angoitia registered his fifth shutout of the season, his first since a clean sheet against Manhattan.
Fairfield will have the weekend off before returning to the pitch next Wednesday, November 6 against Saint Peter's University. The game will be Senior Night as the contest represents the team's final regular-season home game. The scheduled start for the outing is 7 pm at Lessing Field.
