FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team will finish their 2013 fall campaign at the Connecticut State Championships in New Haven, Conn. on October 25-27.
Last year at the event, the Stags faced opponents from Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, the University of Connecticut and Yale.
In singles,
Ofir Solomon made it to the quarterfinals. After a first round bye, Solomon defeated Connecticut's Mark Hosang in a close two set match, 6-3, 7-6, in the second round. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Yale's Martin Svenning, 6-3, 6-0.
Ian Tesmond and
Dennis Zlobinsky both made it to the round of 16 before losing their respective matches to Yale opponents. Tesmond took on Luke Roser in the second round and posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory; then came up short against Patrick Chase of Yale, 7-5, 6-2. Zlobinsky beat Connecticut's Andrew Ginzberg, 6-1, 6-1, and then battled against No. 2 seed Jason Brown from Yale but fell short, 7-5, 7-6.
In doubles play, three out of four Fairfield duos went 1-1. Solomon/Zlobinsky paired up and defeated Roser/Fahoum, 8-5, before falling, 8-3, to the Yale twosome who went on to win the title, Powers/Hoffman.
The Fairfield men's tennis team (1-0) will open their 2014 campaign at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts when they host Fordham University on January 24 at 8pm.
