BRONX, N.Y. – The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country team had a solid day of competition at the 18th Annual Br. John “Paddy” Doyle Iona College Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. The men's team placed eighth overall while the women's team finished seventh overall.
Junior
Howie Rosas was Fairfield's top-finisher in the men's 8K, finishing with a personal best of 25:59.99 to finish 15th overall. Not only was it a personal best but it was the fastest time ever by a Fairfield harrier at Van Cortlandt Park. On the women's side, sophomore
Maureen Crimmins was the first Stag across the line in the women's 6K with a time of 23:30.89 good for 20th overall.
Also clocking some of the best-ever times by Fairfield runners at Van Cortlandt Park were junior
Brian Cleary who registered a personal best of 26:38.16, sophomore
Connor Kelley who posted a time of 26:40.64, junior
John Lobo who had a time of 26:46.02. Rounding out Fairfield's top-seven were seniors
Dylan Fisher in 26:59.87,
Kyle Short in 27:09.01, and
Greg Chase in 28:04.62. Senior
Matt Boley finished in 28:20.23.
The Fairfield men were eighth overall with 203 points beating out Siena College which finished ninth (277) and Manhattan College which finished 14th (369). Brown University captured the event while Boston College was second and Iona was third.
On the women's side sophomore
Cate Forte and senior
Sam Goodnow each posted personal bests. Forte stopped the clock in 24:00.93 while Goodnow finished in 24:35.42. Junior
Hillary Maxson posted a time of 25:13.40 while sophomore
Maggie MacKenzie finished in 25:33.14. Rounding out the top-seven was junior
Molly Leidig who finished in 25:50.24 and sophomore
Danielle Renziwho finished in 25:55.31. Sophomore
Kelsey Murphy posted a time of 26:03.59 while junior
Juli Bassett finished in 27:04.72.
The Fairfield women were seventh overall with 188 points. The Stags finished ahead of MAAC foe Manhattan which finished ninth (261) and Siena which finished tenth (264). Army won the team title while the University of Pennsylvania was the runner-up. Iona placed fourth.
Fairfield returns to action on September 22 when it hosts the 36th Annual Fr. Victor F. Leeber Invitational on campus. The women's 5K begins at 11am followed by the men's 8K begins at 11:45am. The Stags have designated the meet as a Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for the Cure® event and will be raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
