LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The men's and women's tennis teams swept Rider University this afternoon in their first and only fall Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matchup.
 
On the men's side, Erik Kremheller never gave up a game playing at No. 3 singles defeating Ryan Carpenter and No. 3 doubles with Bjorn Merinder. The pair defeated Carpenter and Sean Sweeney, 8-0.  At No. 1 singles, junior Ian Tesmond defeated Rollie Malfitano 6-1, 6-1 then competed with sophomore Cameron Amyot in doubles at the one spot taking the match, 8-0.  Dennis Zlobinsky played in the two spot and beat Drew Laverty in two straight without giving up a game.  Duo Zlobinsky and Ofir Solomon started the day with a win over Laverty and Matt DiMartino, 8-2.  Rounding out singles play in the four, five and six spots with victories, were Amyot, Solomon and Merinder.
 
For the women, both Emma Samson and Margaret McLaughlin, who paired for doubles, never gave up a game.  In doubles they defeated Jaclyn Giameo and Samantha Troxell.  Samson took on Leonora Paul at No. 5 singles and McLaughlin defeated Troxell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.  At No. 1 singles, the two-time MAAC Player of the Year Monica Yajima defeated Marly Roche, 6-0, 6-1.  In doubles, the duo of Yajima and Allison Radde faced Roche and Michelle Caravaglio.  In the closest match of the day, the Stags defeated the Broncs' duo, 8-4.  In the two spot for singles, Sharissa Ryan matched up against Caravaglio and came away with a 6-2, 6-0 win.  Radde and Nikki Jackson competed at the three and four spots, respectively, both coming away with victories in their first match of the season. 
 
The Stags who are the defending MAAC Champions in both men's and women's tennis are now each 1-0 in MAAC play.  The men's team will return to the courts for the weekend of September 21 as they compete at the USTA Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.  The women's team will play this weekend at the Columbia Invitational.
