Three Women's Golfers Earn NGCA All-America Academ

For the first time in program history the Fairfield University women's golf team has had student-athletes earn National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Scholar accolades. Rising senior Elly Lemons (Upton, Mass.)  and rising sophomores Emma Ritzmann (Fairport, N.Y.) and Katie Rockwell (Rumford, R.I.) were the three Stags to earn the prestigious honor.

The NGCA honored 585 women's collegiate golfers from across Division I, II, & III with All-America Scholar honors.  To earn the award a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

“This is a tremendous honor for Elly, Emma and Katie,” said Director of Fairfield Golf Len Roberto. “It is a true testament to their dedication and maturity to compete successfully not only on the golf course, but in the classroom as well.  I am quite proud of these three young ladies and applaud their accomplishment.”

Lemons played 19 rounds during the 2011-12 campaign.  She shot a 54-hole score of 242, her best of the year, to finish tied for fifth at the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.  She finished in the top-20 in four of her eight tournaments during her junior year.

Ritzmann played in 17 rounds as a rookie at Fairfield.  She placed second with a season-best 54-hole score of 236 at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational, and then finished 11th at the MAAC Championship. She finished in the top-15 in three of the seven tournaments in which she played.

Rockwell also played in 17 rounds during her freshman campaign.  She had a season-best 10th place finish in the conference tournament, shooting a three-round score of 248.
