WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Fairfield men's tennis defeated Niagara University in the semifinal of the MAAC Championships this morning, 4-3. They will face Marist College in the final tomorrow morning at 9am.
The Stags started strong, continuing their dominant doubles play and proving why they swept the All-MAAC First Team doubles honors. In the one spot,
Dan Sauter and
Dennis Zlobinsky defeated Brandon Gallegos and David Raymond 8-6. At No. 2 doubles,
Joe Michalisin and
Erik Kremheller breezed by Mattieu Lacasse and Loranz Schowjer, 8-0. Rounding out doubles play was duo
Ian Tesmond and
Cameron Amyot who defeated David Lemiueuz-Sarras and Olivier Dufour-Cours, 8-3.
Three Stags came away with Fairfield victories this morning in the one, three and six spots. At No. 1 singles, Sauter defeated Joe Zolic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. In the third spot, Michalisin came out strong capturing the first set without giving up a game and finished off Gallegos, 6-0, 6-4. Clinching the match for Fairfield was freshman
Cameron Amyot who took on Lemieux-Sarras. The two battled throughout a three-set match but Amyot came out on top, 6-2, 7-6, 6-1.
Fairfield advances to the championship match which will be played tomorrow morning at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J. at 9am. The Stags will face Marist College who defeated Saint Peter's, 6-1.
