TRUMBULL, Conn. – Fairfield men's tennis clinched the No. 2 seed in the MAAC tournament with their 6-1 victory over Loyola University Maryland. The Stags (14-3, 5-1) started the day with a doubles sweep followed by singles victories in the one through five spots. The victory against the Greyhounds ends the men's season with an undefeated run on their home courts.
Finishing first at No. 3 doubles was the duo pairing of
Cameron Amyot and
Mike Lessing who defeated Connor Lisco and Patrick Glaessner, 8-1. Setting the momentum for the remainder of the match, the two continue their undefeated streaks in doubles conference play. The one and two spot each had an 8-5 victory. At No. 1 doubles was
Dan Sauter and
Dennis Zlobinsky who finished on top of Pierce Norton and Kevin Zingler while
Erik Kremheller and
Joe Michalisin beat Keyan Sanai and Bobby Gorczakowski. The Stags finished the regular season with a perfect 18-0 record in doubles play.
After picking up the doubles point, Fairfield continued the standout performances into singles play. In the one spot,
Dan Sauter defeated Sanai in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, extending his win-streak to five matches. At No. 2 singles, Michalisin defeated Norton, 6-2, 6-2 finishing his senior MAAC regular season with a perfect 6-0 singles record. Zlobinsky played in the three spot while Kremheller played No. 4 singles, each taking their Greyhound opponent in two straight. Freshman Amyot rounded out the victories for the Stags, with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Lisco.
The Fairfield men's team have clinched the No. 2 seed entering the MAAC Championship Tournament next weekend which will start on April 28 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J. The Stags are set to play their first match against Niagara University in a 9am semifinal.
