STORRS, CT— In a dominant showing the Fairfield Stags defeated in-state and Big East foe UConn 7-0 today.
Strong from the start, the Stags took two of the opening doubles matches 8-4, then went on to sweep all singles matches without the loss of a set.
Ian Tesmond, Erik Kremheller, and
Joe Michalisin all went 2-0 on the day. Kremheller and Michalisin paired up at No. 3 doubles to start the day with an 8-4 win followed by a similar victory by Tesmond and
Cameron Amyot at No. 2 doubles.
Fairfield dominated in singles play with No. 2 Tesmond defeating Connecticut's Jacob Spreyer 6-4, 6-2. Michalisin faced Wei Lin for the second time this season, the first being October 31, 2011. Lin defeated Michalisin in two sets at the Connecticut State Championships, but this time around the Stag came out on top with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Fairfield moves to 7-2 on the season and 1-0 in the MAAC. Next up is conference foe Niagara in Buffalo on Saturday.
