WESTFIELD, Mass. –
The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams turned in numerous personal bests this afternoon at the 100th running of the New England Championships at Stanley Park. The men's team placed 16th out of 37 teams while the women's cross country team finished 17th out of 37 squads for the highest-ever finishes by the Stags.

Junior Howie Rosas set another personal best in the men's 8K, clocking a time of 25:00.64 to place 24th out of 261 harriers. Sophomore Maureen Crimmins was the Stags' top-finisher, posting a personal best of 18:23.98 in the women's 5K to place 49th overall. Both finishes were the highest-ever by a Stag runner at the event.

Sophomore Connor Kelley notched a personal best with a time of 25:23.40 while junior Brian Cleary had a personal best of 26:08.13. Senior Kyle Short registered a personal best as well, finishing in 26:12.28. Junior John Lobo had a time of 26:13.86, senior Dylan Fisher clocked a 26:43.15, and senior Greg Chase rounded it out with a time of 27:13.67.
 
Dartmouth College won the men's team title while American International University's Mike Biwott posted a winning time of 23:56.16.
 
Sophomores Danielle Renzi and Cate Forte each posted personal bests as Renzi clocked a time of 18:52.58 while Forte finished in 19:03.54. Senior Sam Goodnow had a personal best of 19:09.61 while juniors Molly Leidig and Hillary Maxson had a personal bests of 19:27.70 and 19:42.20, respectively. Sophomore Maggie MacKenzie rounded out Fairfield's top-six with a time of 20:10.76.         
 
Boston College won the women's team title for the third consecutive season. Boston University's Monica Adler won the individual title with a time of 17:00.79.
 
In the women's sub-varsity race, freshman Kathleen Woods had a personal best of 19:40.19 while senior Meghan Sullivan had a time of 19:44.15. Junior Danica Ceballos notched a personal best of 19:57.33 while sophomore Kelsey Murphy had a personal best of 20:01.45. Junior Juli Bassett also recorded a personal best with a mark of 20:28.00. In her collegiate debut, sophomore Michael Therrien posted a time of 20:45.20. Freshman Nora Garrity had a personal best of 20:58.21 while freshman Deirdre Simms ran a 21:16.22 in her collegiate debut. Senior Kerry Hamilton  posted a time of 22:35.65.                                                           
 
In the men's sub-varsity race, freshman Dan DeBlock posted a time of 26:28.91 while classmate Nick Carapezza had a time of 26:44.03 in his collegiate debut. Senior Matt Boley had a time of 27:03.01 while sophomore Jake Ruskan finished in 27:12.00. In his first race of the season, sophomore Kyle Wegner had a time of 27:27.62. Freshman Frank Segreto ran a personal best of 27:31.69 while senior Ernie Lustenring ran a season-best 29:43.41.
 
The Stags return to action on October 13 as they return home to host the Fr. W. Laurence O'Neil Invitational on the campus of Fairfield University. The women's 5K begins at 10:30am while the men's 8K begins at 11:15am.
 
Fairfield travels to the 2012 MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. on October 27 in a meet that will air on ESPN3. The Stags wrap up their season on November 9 at the NCAA Regionals which they will co-host with Yale University at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn.
