After two weeks off, the Fairfield University cross country team will resume action on October 7. The Stags will participate in the 100th Running of the New England Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
The women's varsity 5K, which features 41 teams, begins at 1:30pm. The men's varsity 8K, comprised of 40 squads, is set to go off at 2:15pm. The sub-varsity races begin at 12pm.
It is Fairfield's first time back at the New England Championships since 2009. During that run, the men's team placed 31st overall.
Dylan Fisher had a time of 26:38 while
Kyle Short clocked a 27:03 and
Matt Boley finished in 27:18. On the women's side, the Stags finished 31st overall as well.
UConn is the defending men's team champion while AIC's Glarius Rop has won the last three individual titles. Boston College is the two-time defending women's champion while Boston University's Kathy Matthews was the 2011 women's individual champion.
After the New England Championships, the Stags return home on October 13 to host the Fr. W. Laurence O'Neil Invitational. Fairfield travels to the 2012 MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. on October 27 in a meet that will air on
ESPN3. The Stags wrap up their season on November 9 at the NCAA Regionals which they will co-host with Yale University at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn.
