FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will head south for a Thursday night matchup with Saint Peter's College, the first of two road games this weekend. The Stags have already played four conference road games this season.
Fairfield comes off a 61-52 win over Rider University on Monday night behind a team-high 15 points from
Derek Needham. The junior moved into the top 20 on Fairfield's all-time scoring list with his performance, netting 1,220 points in his two-plus seasons. Needham already moved into the top 10 for career assists at Fairfield, and has dished off 35 assists against just 13 turnovers over the last seven games.
Rakim Sanders (13 points),
Colin Nickerson (12 points), and
Desmond Wade (10 points) also reach double figures against the Broncs, as Fairfield led Rider from start to finish. Sanders is averaging nearly a double-double in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, registering 14.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game against conference foes. Nickerson established six season-highs in the Rider game, setting the mark for points (12), rebounds (5), assists (3), field goals (4), Free throws (4), and minutes (29). Wade reached double figures for the second straight game and the third time in four outings, averaging 12.7 points per game over that stretch.
Saint Peter's enters the game with a 4-13 overall record and a 3-4 MAAC mark, which includes a come-from-behind victory against Canisius College over the weekend. The Peacocks have split their last four games in MAAC play, both victories coming against Canisius.
Chris Prescott leads the team in scoring with a 12.3 scoring average. He is also the team's top free throw shooter, netting 82 percent of his attempts this season (37 of 45). Lamin Fulton is the Peacocks' top three point shooters, averaging just over two long-range baskets per game. He is making 38 percent of his three-point attempts, netting 42 of 111 tries. Darius Conley is the team's top rebounder with an 8.2 rebounding average.
Fairfield finishes its weekend road trip with a game against Marist College in Poughkeepsie. The Stags and the Red Foxes will tip off at 2 pm.
