2010-11
Nickerson developed into one of the conference’s top defensive players in 2010-11, placing second in the MAAC for steals per game (1.9 per game). He had nearly as many steals (53) as turnovers (54), and recorded more steals than turnovers 11 times. Nickerson had at least one steal in 27 of 33 games, including the last nine games of the season. Over the last eight games of the season, Nickerson tallied 33 steals, including a team season high of seven against Austin Peay. The guard has 11 games with three or more steals, including a run of seven straight games from February 16 to March 15. He tallied 32 steals during that seven-game stretch, averaging 4.6 steals per game. He came off the bench in that game and scored a season-high 17 points and added eight rebounds to his game totals. Nickerson scored in 29 of his 33 appearances, which included five double-digit efforts. He reached double digits in back-to-back games once, netting 11 points against Howard and 10 points at Siena. Nickerson started 18 games in 2010-11, 16 of which came in the first 19 games of the season. He started two more games the rest of the way –Siena and at Iona. He averaged 6.4 points as a reserve (96 points in 15 games) and 5.5 points as a starter (99 points in 18 games).
2009-10
Nickerson emerged as one of the team’s top reserves during his inaugural season, leading the bench in scoring seven times. He led all bench players with 14 points against Niagara in the MAAC tournament semifinals and with 14 points in the MAAC tourney championship game with 10 points. It was the second time that he posted back-to-back double-digit scoring performances as a freshman, also accomplishing the task with 13 points at Manhattan and a career-high 20 points at Vermont. He was awarded the MAAC Rookie of the Week after averaging 16.5 points per game in the 1-1 week against Manhattan and Vermont. All four of his double-figure scoring efforts came on the road, allowing him to average 5.5 points on the road and 2.4 points at home. He started the first three games of the season, before coming off the bench for the remaining regular-season contests. Nickerson returned to the starting lineup for the two CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament games. He was third on the team with 27 steals, registering one in 17 of his 34 games. He was also tied for third among his teammates with 38 assists, including a career-high three against Siena in the championship game. He also collected a career-high six rebounds against the Saints, eclipsing his previous high of five set against Canisius in the MAAC quarterfinals and at Siena during the regular season.
Before Fairfield
Nickerson enjoyed a solid senior season at Waukegan High School, where he finished the campaign with a 19.0 scoring average. He tallied 550 points in his 29 appearances. He showed his three-point shooting ability by leading the team with 43 long-range jumpers, almost double the amount of the next best individual total. An all-around player at Waukegan, the guard also averaged 3.8 rebounds per game and was tied for the team lead with 3.0 assists per contest. He capped his senior season by playing in the Chicago High School Classic against his current teammate Derek Needham. Nickerson scored eight points with two three pointers in the All-Star game.
