The Fairfield University women's soccer team saw its unbeaten streak snapped at four games with a 2-1 loss to Stony Brook University on Lessing Field Sunday afternoon.  The win improves the Seawolves to 2-7-0 on the season, while the Stags fall to 2-2-2.

Fairfield struck first when Stephanie Sutherby drove a ball from the near sideline into the box.  Lauren Reilly dove from the opposite side, past her defender, and headed the ball into the netting on the near side for a 1-0 in the 24th minute.  It is the first collegiate point for Sutherby, a sophomore.

The lead was short-lived however; as the Seawolves were awarded a penalty kick in the 30th minute after a shot was handled in the box by a Stag defender.  Sa'sha Kershaw rolled the PK inside the near post to knot the score, 1-1.

Stony Brook would net the go-ahead goal early in the second-half, as the Seawolves played a corner kick into the box, which Fairfield could not clear.  The ball was knocked around in front of the crease and finally found its way to the foot of Rachel Silverman who slid it into the back of the net. Fairfield outshot Stony Brook 14-5 on the day, including 7-1 in the second-half, but couldn't find the equalizer.

Kelly Boudreau made two saves on the day as the Stags saw their streak of not allowing an opponent to score stopped at 489 minutes.  Stony Brook keeper Chelsea Morales made five saves, two in the second-half, to earn the win.

Fairfield returns to action on September 21 when it travels to the University of Hartford for a 7 p.m. contest.
