Field Hockey Travels to Lehigh for Saturday Matchu

FAIRFIELD, Conn. –  The Fairfield University field hockey team travels to Bethlehem, Penn. tomorrow afternoon for a matchup against the Mountain Hawks at 1 pm.

Fairfield is 4-2 and coming off a two game winning streak, completing their Stag Classic weekend by defeating both St. Francis University and Radford University, 2-1.  Top scorer and senior co-captain, Marit Westenberg leads the team with 12 points (five goals and two assists), while freshman Felicitas Heinen is right behind with seven and Leah Furey follows with four points.  As of now, Goalkeepers Caitlin O'Donnell and Maddy Sposito have been splitting time.  O'Donnell has an impressive 0.80 goals against average (GAA) while Sposito has played four games, starting three with a 2.00 GAA and a .696 save percentage.

Lehigh currently has a record of 1-4 for the 2011 season, defeating La Salle in overtime 4-3 on their home field.  The Hawks have dropped games to St. Francis, Georgetown, Monmouth, and Quinnipiac.  Lehigh has allowed three or more goals in each of their games.  Sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Segear has already posted 43 saves on the season, and is now a two time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week.  Senior Abby Tilton is the team's top scorer with eight points including three goals and two assists. 

Saturday will be third time in as many years for the Stags and Mountain Hawks to face off against one another.  Over the last three years Fairfield is 1-2 against Lehigh, beating the Hawks last season 2-1.

The Fairfield University field hockey team will next see playing time on their home field on Wednesday, September 21, as they take on Sacred Heart University at 4 pm.
