BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team completes its two-game swing through Buffalo on Sunday evening when the Stags take on Canisius College. The game is scheduled for a 5 pm tip-off.
The team comes off a 79-75 win over Niagara University, improving the team's overall record to 4-4 and its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate to 1-0. Fairfield only trailed once during the game at 7-5 early in the first half. The Stags received a solid effort from
Rakim Sanders, who tallied his second double-double in the last three games. The senior registered 16 points and 12 rebounds against the Purple Eagles, including 11 pointts in the second half.
Fairfield also received its best effort from the team's reserves, as the bench combined for 27 points.
Sean Crawford was responsible for most of those points, netting a season-high 19 points.
Jamel Fields also contributed eight points as a reserve, hitting two of three three-point tries and a pair of free throws.
Sanders remains the team's top scorer with a 17.9 scoring average, one of three Fairfield student-athletes with a double-digit scoring average.
Ryan Olander, who recorded 15 points against Niagara off seven of nine shooting from the field, places second among his teammates with a 12.1 scoring average.

Canisius brings a 1-4 overall record and a 0-1 MAAC mark after dropping a 57-69 decision to Iona College at home on Friday night. Harold Washington netted a game-high 22 points for the Golden Griffs, while Reggie Groves added 11 points against Iona. Chris Manhertz posted 10 rebounds in the contest as well.
Washington is the team's top scorer at 19 points per game, shooting 55 percent from the field. .He is also second on the team with a 4.8 rebounding average. Alshwan Hymes (15.0 ppg) and Gaby Bellardo (11.0 ppg) are also in double figures for the season. Manhertz is the team's top rebounder with eight caroms per contest.
