2010-11 - All-MAAC Second Team, MAAC All-Academic, Division I-AAA ADA Scholar Athlete Team
Olander was one of two Fairfield student-athletes to start all 33 games in 2010-11, joining Derek Needham for that honor. He earned a spot on the All-MAAC second team, as well as the MAAC All-Academic team and the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar Athlete team. The center ranked second among his teammates and 21st in the MAAC with a 10.4 scoring average. He was also listed among the conference leaders in rebounding (9th with 6.8 per game), field goal percentage (2nd at .532), and blocked shots (tied for 2nd with 2.1 per game). The team’s most accurate shooter, Olander shot 60 percent or better from the floor in 11 games during 2010-11, including a perfect 7 for 7 against Saint Peter’s which included his first three-point shot of the season. The Connecticut native reached double figures in 17 times in 2010-11, highlighted by two 23-point efforts against Army and Rider. His 23-point nights were his first two 20-plus point performances of his career. He recorded five double-doubles during the season, including a 12-point, 10-rebound night at Colorado State in the first round of the NIT. He also reached the mark against Loyola (14/14), at Holy Cross (17/10), Saint Peter’s (15/12), and Manhattan (11/10). Olander led the team in personal fouls with 94, but never fouled out of a game. He just missed a double-double by one rebound against Army (23/9)at Canisius (15/9), and at Saint Peter’s (10/9). He was the team’s top rebounder outright 12 times and co-leader in two additional games.
2009-10
Olander ranked as one of the most consistent players for the Stags during the 2009-10 campaign. He averaged 5.8 points per home game and 5.6 points per away game as a sophomore. He had eight double digit scoring efforts, splitting those games between home and away. Olander came off the bench in five of his first six appearances before putting together a run of 19 straight starts, beginning with a game at Hofstra on November 30. The streak came to an end at Rider on February 12, netting seven points on three of five shooting from the floor. Olander performed well at the MAAC tournament, averaging 9.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game over the three games and shooting 59 percent from the floor (10 of 17). He performed well on the defensive side of the court, placing second among his teammates with 48 blocked shots (1.4 bpg). He rejected three or more shots in nine games, highlighted by a career-best five blocks against Maryland. Olander reached the 10-point mark eight times, netting a career-high 14 points twice (at Howard and against Siena). He added 10 rebounds against Siena to complete his first career double-double on January 16. He just missed another double-double with 11 points and nine caroms against Niagara in the MAAC tournament. The forward also showed his shooting range with 10 three-point baskets, securing a long-range jumper in nine games. He made two of three three-point attempts against Fordham, his only game with more than one three pointer.
2008-09
Olander was the only first-year player to appear in all 32 games last season, eight of which came as a starter. He earned seven consecutive starts from January 23 (Rider) to Marist (February 12), during which he averaged 6.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He started one additional game, registering seven points and four rebounds against Hofstra. For the season, Olander averaged 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds, which included 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game as a reserve. He reached double digits as a scorer three times - 10 points at Manhattan, 11 points at Canisius, and 10 points at Siena during the MAAC tournament. His best home performance was an eight-point evening against Rider in his first career start. Olander tallied 21 blocks in his 32 games, more than his assists (10) and turnovers (18) totals. He showed his shooting range with eight three-point baskets, gaining one long-range jumper in eight different games.
Before Fairfield
Olander tallied over 1,100 points and grabbed 500-plus rebounds during his career at E.O. Smith High School. He ranked among the team’s top scorers throughout his career, especially with his 20 points per game as a senior. As a junior, he tallied a personal-best 21 points per game. He netted 32 points in a game twice, accomplishing the task against Windsor and Bulkley. Olander established career records at E.O. Smith for blocked shots in a season as well as in a career. He also established a standard for rebounds in a season. He was an All-Conference player twice, and earned All-State accolades. He was also named to the Hartford Courant first team and the New Haven Register second team. Olander captured the team’s most valuable player in his final two campaigns. Off the court, Olander received Academic All-Conference honors four times and Academic All-State twice.
