MANHATTAN, N.Y. – Two Stags,
Dan Sauter and
Dennis Zlobinsky, traveled to compete in the Columbia Invitational hosted in Manhattan, N.Y. over the weekend.
Zlobinsky started off the day on a high note defeating Fordham's Peder Gram 6-2, 6-1 followed with a second victory against John Yetimoglu from Clumbia. In the semifinals, Zlobinsky came up short against St. John's Michael Lampa who went on to win the 'B' singles championship.
Sauter had two tough singles matches lined up for him in the 'A' bracket. His first against Matija Pecotic from Princeton, who defeated Sauter 6-3,6-0 and went on to capture the 'A' singles final. In his consolation match, Sauter faced Zack Katz from Pennsylvania who defeated the Stag 6-0, 6-2 and went on to win the 'A' consolation finals.
In doubles, the two Stags paired together for a successful outing earning two victories. First, Sauter and Zlobinsky faced Robert Wong and Lucas Andreika from Pennsylvania defeating the two 8-5. Following that match in the semifinals, the pair defeated a mixed school duo, Theo Marin from Columbia and Ben Quazzo from Princeton. Fairfield came out on top 9-8(5) advancing to the finals where they dropped to Columbia's Schnur and Ashok Narayana 8-2.
The Fairfield men's tennis team will next take the courts reunited in Ithaca, N.Y. at the ITA Regionals which will take place from October 13 to October 18.
