The Fairfield University women's soccer posted its third consecutive shutout and moved a step closer to qualifying for next weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship with a 1-0 win over conference host Canisius College Friday night.  The win improves the Stags to 6-6-5 on the year and 4-2-2 in league play, while the Griffs fall to 8-7-3 overall and 3-3-4 in MAAC action.

The shutout is the Stags ninth of the season, with Kelly Boudreau making six saves on the night.  She was tested early, making her first saves just 2:25 into the game, but it was her third save, in the 41st minute that changed the game.

Fairfield gained possession after the save and took the ball to the other end of the field.  With 1:41 to play before intermission, Kasey Schulz lofted a ball from 30-yards out into the back of the net.  It was the only goal the Stags needed, with the tally being the first game-winner of the year for Schulz.

Boudreau has now made 72 saves this season to bring her career total to 385, second all-time at Fairfield.  She is three saves shy of tying Anne Lyon's for the school record in that category.  Lyons made 388 saves from 1997-2000.

Fairfield was out shot on the evening, 12-8, with the Griffs holding a 6-4 edge in shots.  The Griffs had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, and committed more fouls, 13-10.  Neither team was called offsides on the evening.

The Stags close out the regular season on Sunday at noon at Niagara University.  A Fairfield win would clinch the Stags either the second or third seed in the upcoming MAAC Championships.  The Stags can also clinch a berth in the tournament with a Loyola loss to Saint Peter's in Baltimore on Sunday.  The result of Friday night's game between Niagara and Iona College will also open another qualification option for the Stags.
