FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield field hockey teamrecognized and honored their first All-Decade Team. To be considered for the team, players must have played all four years of their eligibility between 2001 and 2010. Eleven field players and one goalkeeper made the team after receiving votes from their fellow Stag teammates.
Meet the team…
Fairfield standout, Dani Brown '03 clinched a spot on the All-Decade team with 81 total points, 35 goals, 11 assists, and nine game winning goals. The captain received the William Wallin '61 Memorial Award, was a two time member of the All-Patriot League first and second teams during her career, and a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Mideast 1st team.
Iza Kotowski '02 received an overwhelming number of votes and her statistics explain why. She was part of the Patriot League championship team, and posted 108 total points (42 goals, 24 assists) with four game winning goals. She received All-Patriot League first & second Team honors. She was a member of the NFHCA All-Mideast Region team, and played in the North-South All-Star. She capped her career as the Fairfield University Female Athlete of the Year.
Liz Croney '03 tallied one goal and 10 assists which added up to 12 total points. Croney made the Patriot League Honor Roll and was a three time NFHCA National Team. The captain was a member of the Patriot League first and second teams, NFHCA All-Mideast second team, and the North-South All-Star Team. She was recognized as the Fairfield University Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Part of the Patriot League Championship team, Karen Zanleoni '02 registered 16 goals, 13 assists, and four game winning goals for 45 points during her career. She earned a spot on the All-Patriot League first team as well as the North-South All-Star team.
Alexia Kennedy '02 earned 26 goals, 27 assists, and 5 game winning goals for 79 total points during her four-year stay. Kennedy was a member of the Patriot League Championship team and was honored as offensive player of the week, NFHCA All-Mideast, All-PL second team, and as a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Steph Holland '02 was also a part of the Patriot League Championship team. She owned two goals, six assists and ten total points during the year. Holland performed well both on and off the field, receiving a spot on the Patriot League All-Academic first team, the League's Honor Roll, the NFHCA National Academic Team, All-Patriot League first Team, and NFHCA All-Mideast team.
Lauren Pizzi is the final player from the Stags' championship team, who finished her season with 25 total points including seven goals, 11 assists, and one game-winning goal. She earned a place on the Patriot League Honor Roll, the All-Patriot League first team, All-Northeast Conference second team, and the NFHCA All-Mideast second team over her four years.
Becca Odenwaelder '06 tallied 22 total points, most of which came off her 18 career assists The Stag captain received All-Northeast Conference first team honors, was a member of the All-Tournament team and the NFHCA All-Mideast second team.
Caitlin Quinn '07 earned 12 goals, six assists, and two game winning goals in her four-year stay resulting in 30 total points. She was a four-time NFHCA National Academic Team member, received honors for the All-Northeast Conference first and second teams, and was recognized with the Fairfield University Scholar-Athlete Award.
Fairfield's Emily Janis '09 made the team with 48 total points breaking down to 16 goals, 16 assists and five game winning goals.
Rounding out the field players is Carly McCullough '10 with 20 total points including nine goals and two assists with one game winner. McCullough was awarded a spot on the America East All-Academic Team, was a four time NFHCA National Academic Team member, and a three-time All-America East second team member. She was honored by Fairfield University with the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and was the University's NCAA Woman of the Year nominee following her senior season.
Lauren Thomas '04 was recognized as the All-Decade team's lone goalkeeper with a 2.28 goals against average, nine shutouts, and 565 saves. Over her years at Fairfield, Thomas was a two-time NFHCA National Academic Team member, an All-Patriot League first and second team member, and an All-Mideast second team member. Fairfield University honored Thomas with the Female Athlete of the Year award following her senior campaign.
