Field Hockey Edges Vermont On The Road

Stags Secure Seventh Straight Win

Box Score BURLINGTON, Vt. – Camille Perlov scored a pair of goals, including the deciding one in the fourth quarter, helping the Fairfield University field hockey team win its seventh straight game with a 2-1 decision at the University of Vermont. Her performance this afternoon raised her season goal total to seven which places her in a tie for the most goals on the team.

Vermont held a distinct advantage in the first quarter, outshooting the Stags by a 9-0 count over the first 15 minutes. Fairfield goalkeeper Payton Rahn made six saves in the quarter, keeping the home team off the scoreboard.

After not managing a shot in the first quarter, the Stags began to find themselves offensively in the second quarter. Fairfield doubled up the shot advantage with a 4-2 edge, but it was the team's first shot of the game that made a difference. Just after Rahn recorded her seventh save, Fairfield came down the pitch and set up Perlov for the game's first goal. Freshman Kaelyn Fogelson created the scoring chance with a pass to Perlov who finished the play with her sixth goal of the season.

Vermont managed to get even with under two minutes remaining in the first half when Maddy Weaver turned in a pass from Sophia Lefranc into the tying goal with less than two minutes left on the clock.
Neither team was able to mount much offense in the third quarter. The Fairfield offense did not manage a shot for the second time while Vermont was able to muster just two attempts over the 15-minute span. Abby Wilber was responsible for the first shot, set up by a Catamount penalty corner, while Gabby Santini's attempt was blocked by a defender before it became dangerous.

In the fourth quarter, both offensive unit found their way inside the circle more frequently with both sides attempting five shots. Rahn was called on to make two saves in the period, keeping the game deadlocked at 1-1. Fairfield regained the lead for good early in the fourth quarter when Perlov found the back of the net in the 48th minute. Her goal was set up by Alyse Wanchisen, who recorded her second assist on the season.

Rahn finished the match with a season-best nine saves for the Stags while her counterpart at Vermont was responsible for Merle Vaandrager stopped four Fairfield shots.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under Head Coach Laura Gebhart, will play one more regular-season road game when it heads to Mercyhurst University on Friday, October 17 for a NEC game. The Stags will return home for the start of a four-game home stand on Sunday, October 19 by hosting Rider University in another conference match.
