Field Hockey Secures Fifth Straight Win, Remains Unbeaten In NEC Play

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team extended its winning streak to five games and remained unbeaten in Northeast Conference (NEC) play with its 11-0 win over the University of New Haven this afternoon. The 11 goals represent a school record for single-game scoring, surpassing the program's output in a 10-0 decision over LIU during the 2016 campaign.

The Stags did not allow a shot in the 60 minutes of action as goalkeeper Payton Rahn and Paige Jackson split time with 30 minutes each. Fairfield saw seven different student-athletes find the back of the cage with Konni Hofmann pacing the offense by scoring three times. Rylee LaLoup and Alex Senior were also multi-goal scorers with two each.

Fairfield dominated play throughout the four quarters, beginning with a five-goal offensive in the opening 15 minutes. Hofmann started things for Fairfield with a goal in just the third minute of play, converting a pass from Pilar Mengotti.

Over the next three minutes, Alex Senior added a pair of goals to the team total before Hofmann added her second goal of the day to bring the score to 4-0. Amanda Dressel closed out the first-quarter scoring with a goal set up by a pass from Courtland Schumacher in the 13th minute.

New Haven's defense tightened up in the second quarter and limited Fairfield's scoring chances with a more aggressive tenor. Still, the Stags were able to add three more goals to their total starting with Camille Perlov's goal at the 22:13 mark.

Alex Jordan worked some magic inside the circle with nifty stick handling that helped her elude several Charger defenders before finding free space inside the circle to complete the goal-scoring opportunity. Rylee LaLoup's tip in of a pass from Mengotti closed out the second-quarter offense and sent the Stags into halftime with an 8-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Autumn Bartush joined the offense for the team's lone goal in the period, a play started by Noor Hellemans in the 32nd minute. The Stags posted their final two goals in fourth period when Hofmann beat the goalkeeper at 49:35 while LaLoup secured her second goal off an entry pass by Alyse Wanchisen with 2:24 left on the clock.

The win kept Fairfield's unbeaten mark at home intact and sends the team back on the road with a positive feeling. The Stags will play three straight road contests beginning with a pair of challenging opponents in Hofstra University and the University of Vermont next week.

"This weekend was a refresh after being on the road for so long and it was nice to be home and be in front of our fans," Head Coach Laura Gebhart said. "And to be able to get two wins puts us in a good position mentally to hit the road for two tough opponents."

The Stags will make their way to Hofstra on Friday, October 10 for a 3 pm match before heading north on Sunday, October 12 for their meeting with Vermont at 1 pm.
