FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Freshman
Kaelyn Fogelson earned the NEC Rookie of the Week after helping the Fairfield University Field Hockey team win a pair of games last week, extending the team's winning streak to five matches. All five of those matches have come against NEC opponents, putting the Stags on top of the conference standings.
Fogelson was instrumental in the team's 3-1 win over Sacred Heart University last Friday as the forward was responsible for a pair of goals in the victory. The rookie tallied the team's first goal in the second minute of the match, collecting a loose ball off the goalkeeper's pads and pushing into the back of the goal for a 1-0 lead. She came back to add an insurance goal in the second quarter, redirecting a ball sent into the circle by
Camille Perlov and adding to the team's advantage at 3-1.
For the season, Fogelson ranks third among her teammates with 12 points, netting five goals and assisting on two other scores through her first 11 games as a Stag. She has two game-winning goals this year, posting the deciding score against Lehigh and Sacred Heart this season. She is the team's top scoring freshman on the team while her 12 points places her among the top ten scorers in the NEC, tying for eighth place.
The Fairfield University field hockey team, under Head Coach
Laura Gebhart, brings a 7-4 overall record into this week's action which includes non-conference games at Hofstra University on Friday and at the University of Vermont on Sunday.
