Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Fairfield University field hockey team remained unbeaten in Northeast Conference (NEC) play with its 6-0 win over Merrimack College this afternoon. The Stags improved to 2-0 in the NEC and evened up their record to 4-4 with the result.
The team found its way to an early lead when
Alex Senior found her way onto the box score with her fifth goal of the season. The forward has now scored a goal in four of her last five games and registered the game-winning goal for the second time in as many games. Today, Senior worked her way into an open spot in the circle, allowing her to take a quick shot that beat the Merrimack goalkeeper in the sixth minute of the game.
Fairfield saw its lead double courtesy of
Autumn Bartush who scored the first of her two goals later in the first quarter. She benefitted from a solid pass
Alice Pifferi which set Bartush up for success in the 14
th minute.
The Stags took full control of the match with three goals in the second quarter as three different student-athletes scored just nine minutes apart. The first goal was presented by
Camille Perlov who beat the keeper for her second goal of the season. Just six minutes later,
Rylee LaLoup added another goal on the Fairfield side of the scoreboard, picking up an unassisted goal to raise her season goal total to two.
Fairfield was able to add one more goal before the half courtesy of a fine shot from
Amanda Dressel. The sophomore picked up her first goal of the season when she found the back of the cage in the 28
th minute to raise the first half score to 5-0.
Bartush closed out the scoring with the only goal of the second half, collecting her second goal in the 51
st minute to give her team its 6-0 edge. The goals were the first points for Bartush this season and the first time as a Stag that she recorded multiple goals in a game.
Fairfield goalkeeper
Payton Rahn recorded a save on one of the two shots she faced in the game as Fairfield held a held a 24-2 advantage in shots taken this afternoon. Isabelle Gardiner collected nine saves for the Warriors.
The Stags will complete their weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon when the team travels to Stonehill College for a 1 pm match.
