Course Map
The men's and women's cross country teams will close out the non-championship portion of their schedule on October 15 when the Stags host the Fr. Laurence O'Neil Invitational. The women's 5K is slated to begin at 10:30am with the men's 8K to follow at 11:15am.
In addition to Fairfield, squads from Wagner College, the University of New Haven, and the University of Bridgeport will compete at the event.
The Fairfield Invitational was rededicated as the Fr. W. Laurence O'Neil, S.J. Invitational in honor of the late Stags chaplain. Fr. O'Neil, who also served as a counselor to student-athletes, passed away in October 2009. Fr. O'Neil joined the Fairfield community in 1955 when he began working at Fairfield Prep. In 1972, he was appointed the Director of Career Counseling at Fairfield University, a position he held for 15 years. Fr. O'Neil also spent seven years as the Dean of Students and worked as the International Student Advisor. He joined the Athletics staff in 2006 where he was beloved by student-athletes, coaches, and staff alike.
The Fr. Laurence O'Neil Invitational is Fairfield's final tune-up before the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The MAAC Championships will be held on October 28 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
