POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams each placed second at the Marist College Invitational at Bowdoin Park this morning to open their 2010 campaigns.
On the women's side, Kristen Golen (Malvern, Pa.) finished fifth overall with a time of 21:01. In her first collegiate cross country race, sophomore Meghan Sullivan (Tampa, Fla.) was eighth overall, finishing in 21:11. Junior Caroline Riley (Mystic, Conn.) was 10th with a time of 21:17.
Juniors Lauren Tehan (Portland, Ore.) and Lauren Londregan (Old Lyme, Conn.) finished in 13th and 14th places, clocking times of 21:44 and 21:46, respectively. Freshman Molly Leidig (Landenberg, Pa.) rounded out the top-six for the Stags with a time of 21:58.
Junior Nikki Livesey (Livingston, N.J.) had a time of 22:06 and was followed by Samantha Goodnow (Deerfield, N.H.) in 22:11, freshman Danica Ceballos (Upland, Calif.) in 22:15, junior Emily Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) in 22:16, rookie Juli Bassett (Oakdale, Conn.) in 22:24, and freshman Hillary Maxson (Saybrook, Conn.) in 22:34
Marist took the women's event with 16 points, followed by Fairfield with 46. Siena was third with 94 points while Saint Peter's was fourth with 97. Marist's Kiersten Anderson won the event in a record-setting time of 19:13.
In his Fairfield debut, freshman
Howie Rosas (Chestnut Ridge, N.J.) finished fifth overall with a time of 16:40. Junior
Matt Brunelle (Oakham, Mass.), in his first meet back after missing 2009 with an injury, placed ninth overall with a time of 16:49. Sophomore
Kyle Short (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was tenth with a time of 16:51.
Junior
Benjamin Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) was 12th finishing with a time of 16:54. Freshmen
Brian Cleary (Ridgewood, N.J.) and
John Lobo (Baltimore, Md.) rounded out Fairfield's top-six finishing in 17:03 and 17:04, respectively.
Sophomore
Greg Chase (Bristol, Conn.) clocked a time of 17:27 and was followed by junior
Vin Ferrer (Belford, N.J.) in 17:32

Zack Albert (Plantsville, Conn.) in 17:37, sophomore
Dylan Fisher (Peterborough, N.H.) in 18:30, and senior
Jeff Paul (Schenectady, N.Y.) in 19:33.
Marist won the men's event with 16 points, followed by Fairfield with 48. Siena took third with 94 points while Saint Peter's finished in fourth with 102 points. Marist's Adam Vess and Matt Flint tied for first place overall, finishing in a record-setting pace of 15:59.
The Stags return to action on September 11 when they host the Third Annual Fairfield Invitational.
