All Aboard! Women's Soccer On Amtrak To D.C.Invita

The Fairfield University women's soccer team takes its 2-0 record to the nation's capital for Labor Day Weekend at the D.C. Invitational, being hosted by Georgetown University.   The Stags will play American University at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and then take on the host Hoyas, ranked 22nd nationally, at noon on Monday. It marks the Stags first-ever meeting with both the Eagles and Hoyas.
Fairfield is off to its best start since opening the 2001 campaign with three consecutive wins. Fairfield has yet to allow a goal on the season, 180 minutes, marking only the second time in program history that it has posted consecutive shutouts to begin a season. The only other time that occurred was the Stags first varsity season, 1992, when the Stags blanked Manhattan (3-0) and Siena (5-0) to open the year.
Junior keeper Kelly Boudreau has been the beneficiary of the Stags fine defense to start the season, minding the net for every second this season. The consecutive clean sheets gives her 17 shutouts for her career, fourth all-time, as she moves into a tie for fourth in career wins, with 24. Boudreau has only faced three shots on net, stopping them all, as Fairfield has outshot opponents 23-14 for the year.
Three different Stags have tallied goals this season, with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Player of the Year, Jasmin Corniel, and Kasey Schulz, netting game-winners.   Each of the Stags three tallies have been assisted this year, with Boudreau recording the first assist of her career against Binghamton on Schulz' game-winning goal. Nikki Stanton had her first career assist, in her first career assist, feeding Corniel for the winner against Bryant. Nicole Cavallaro has the Stags other tally, on an assist from Sarah Alesio.
American enters Saturday game looking for its first goal of the year, at 0-4. The Eagles played their tightest game of the season against Providence on August 29, falling 1-0, on a goal in the 63rd minute. Lindsay Farthing has played 161 minutes in net for the Eagles, making 14 saves, against seven goals allowed, for a GAA of 3.92. Arianna Efstathiou has 154 minutes of action this season, with a 5.26 GAA and a .500 save percentage, having allowed nine goals.
Georgetown is 4-0 on the season, outscoring foes 20-1 entering play this weekend, having opened the year with three consecutive shutouts, including a 9-0 win over American. Leading the way is Camille Trujillo, who has touched net six times this year, with a pair of game-winners. Ingrid Wells is tied for the team lead with 12 points, having netted three goals and handing out six assists. Kelly D'Ambrisi has three goals, two of them being game-winners, while Kailey Blain has handed out four assists. Jackie DesJardin has started all four games in net and has played all but 45 minutes on the year. She has a .875 save percentage and a goals-against of 0.29.
