Decker, Corniel Tally Goals In Stags 2-0 Win Over

Box Score
The Fairfield University women's soccer team snapped a four-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Manhattan College on Lessing Field Friday night. The victory evens the Stags overall record at 5-5-2 and the squad improves to 1-0-1 in league play, while the Lady Jaspers fall to 2-9-1 on the year and 0-3-0 in MAAC action.
Alyssa Decker (Old Saybrook, Conn.) tallied what would prove to be the game-winning goal, just over 25 minutes into the game, snapping a 425 minute scoreless drought for the Stags. The goal came on a free kick from just inside midfield, that Decker dropped inside the six-meter box and bounced over the head of Manhattan keeper Kara Davis (Redding, Conn).
Jasmin Corniel (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored an insurance goal for Fairfield at 61:55, with assists going to Spenser Allaway (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Nicole Cavallaro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.). Allaway won the ball on the far sideline at the top of the Stags defensive third of the field. She sent a long ball down the sideline, which Cavallaro controlled and centered to Corniel, who got around the keeper for the tally.
The Stags defensive unit posted its seventh shutout of the year and has not allowed an opponent goal in over 217 consecutive minutes. Kelly Boudreau (Farmington, Conn.) made five saves in earning her league leading seventh shutout of the season, and 22nd of her career. She has now made 12 saves in 200 minutes of action against MAAC foes without allowing a goal.
Davis finished the game with four saves and the two goals allowed in playing the entire contest in net for the Lady Jaspers.
Fairfield out shot Manhattan 15-9 for the game, with a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal, with the Lady Jaspers earning the only three corner kicks of the game. Manhattan committed 16 fouls in the game as compared to 12 fouls for the Stags. Fairfield was whistled for seven offside's, with Manhattan being called off on two occasions.
The Stags return to action on Sunday when they host MAAC foe Saint Peter's at 1 p.m. on Lessing Field. The game is the team's 'Kick for the Cure' event in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fairfield will be wearing special pink jerseys in the contest to help raise awareness of breast cancer and there will be several fundraising activities at the game – all benefitting Susan G. Komen® For the Cure.
