Women's Soccer To Kick For The Cure Sunday Versus

The Fairfield University women's soccer team will host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Saint Peter's on Sunday, October 10, at 1 p.m. on Lessing Field, in the second of two home conference games. The Stags will Kick For The Cure against the Peahens as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
As part of the effort to raise awareness of Breast Cancer Month, the Stags will be wearing special pink jerseys for the contest. Select jerseys will be available for auction in the days following the game, with all proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen® For The Cure Foundation. Fairfield will also be donating $1 from each ticket sold on Sunday to Komen and will be holding a 50-50 raffle during the first-half.
Fairfield head coach Jim O'Brien will be joined on the sidelines by honorary coach Maureen Casner. The grandmother of current Stags sophomore Allie Walsh (Westport, Conn.), Casner is a breast cancer survivor and will represent all survivors that attend the Sunday afternoon contest.
“I believe that it is a vitally important part of our student-athletes college learning experience to participate in events and projects that are of service to the community,” said O'Brien. “Breast cancer is a disease that at some point in time will touch nearly every member of our program in some way. This event on Sunday is just a small part of helping to raise awareness of breast cancer and a way for our players, coaches and fans to be part of something bigger. I am very proud of the way our program has embraced this cause.”
For fans attending the game that are interested, there will be an information table at the entrance to Lessing Field. Fairfield will also be accepting donations at the table.
The Stags begin the MAAC weekend by hosting Manhattan Friday night at 7 p.m. All fans that bring a new or gently used book, suitable for children, birth through middle school, will receive free admission to the game. All books will be donated to Read to Grow, Inc.
