FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s tennis team will face Monmouth in a conference match on Sunday at 2:30 pm
The Stags fell to Hofstra 5-2 on March 23. The team jumped out to the lead by earning the doubles point. The Stags saw victories from Anthony Caputo and Jeffrey Rodgers at the No. 2 spot. And Dylan Appel and Luke Lemieux clinched the point with a win at No. 3
In singles action, Appel was the lone Fairfield winner, claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the third position. Brad Orban competed at the first spot pushing Marcus Smith to three sets, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2. Rodgers played at No. 2 singles, dropping a close 7-6, 6-3 match. And at the fourth spot, Caputo fought hard before falling, 7-5, 7-6.
Monmouth is 2-0 in conference play thus far, having defeated Niagara and Rider. The Hawks will face Siena in a MAAC contest on Saturday before hosting the Stags on Sunday. Last time out on April 3, Monmouth fell to #33 Penn State, 6-1. The lone win for the Hawks came at the No. 4 singles spot from Nicola Pipoli who claimed a three set victory for Monmouth.
After Sunday, the Stags will play at Marist on Thursday, April 14.
