FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s tennis team will travel south to North Carolina for three matches this week. On Sunday they will make their first stop at Davidson for a 1:00 pm match. Next they will stop at Charlotte, North Carolina to face UNC Charlotte on Monday at 10:00 am. Their final match will be in Boling Springs, North Carolina, facing off against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 11:00 am.

On Friday, the team grabbed a 4-3 win over the University of Connecticut. The doubles team of Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon grabbed a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot, while Dylan Appel and Luke Lemieux posted a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Fairfield saw wins at the No. 1, 2, and 3 spots to clinch the victory over the Huskies. Orban won 6-1, 6-0 over Jacob Spreyer for a win at No. 1. Solomon competed in the second spot and came out with a straight set victory of 6-2, 6-3. The last win came at the No. 3 spot from Jeffrey Rodgers who battled Zac McEntee for three sets before claiming the 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win.

Taking a look at their opponents, Davidson is 3-6 on the season, and is coming off two straight 7-0 losses to Miami and Florida Atlantic. Sophomore Shamael Chaudhry has spent the majority of time playing at the No. 1 singles spot, posting a 2-4 record this season. Against Florida Atlantic, Chaudhry teamed up with junior J.B Gough for No. 1 doubles and fell 6-1 to the Owls.

Charlotte has won three straight heading into the weekend, and before facing the Stags on Monday they will host Old Dominion on Sunday. In their last outing on March 3, they topped Duquesne 4-0. Because of inclement weather, the two teams were only able to play the singles matches, but the 49ers got wins from the No. 1,2,4, and 5 spots to top the Dukes.

Gardner-Webb sits at 2-7 overall this season. Their last time out they faced Campbell, dropping 6-1. Their lone win came from Yaroslav Prostakov at the five spot, who topped Jonathan O’Neal 6-2, 6-3. In doubles action, they earned a win at the No. 2 spot from the duo of Jonathan Walker and Paul Hogan who won 7-6 (7-5).

After returning home from warm North Carolina, the team will host Yale, Marist, and Stony Brook over the weekend of March 12-13.
