LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Steve Burak finished four strokes back on the individual leaderboard, guiding the Fairfield University men’s golf team to a third-place performance at the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship this weekend at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Stags posted a cumulative 904 in the 54-hole event.
With all five golfers carding rounds in the 70s for the second consecutive day, the Stags’ 303 on Sunday was the second-best round of the day. Iona turned in a 296 – led by a three-under par 69 from McLeod Trophy winner Kevin Kramarski – to claim second place with a three-day score of 894.
The team championship went to Saint Peter’s with an 885 to win by nine strokes. The Peacocks carded a tournament-best 288 in the opening round on Friday and never conceded the top spot on the leaderboard. Saint Peter’s Nicholas Dilio matched Kramarski’s 216 for the weekend but was edged on a playoff hole for individual medalist honors.
For the Stags, Burak shot a 77 on Sunday to round out his 220 (70-73-77). Ricky Dowling led Fairfield in the final round with a 71 to card a 227 (80-76-71). Dowling and teammate Eric Austin (72-78-77) were among those tied in 11th place. Alex Ferrante shot a 79 this afternoon, and Patrick Lynch turned in a 78 to round out the Stags’ showing on the links.
