DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Steve Burak shot a 76 to lead the Fairfield University men’s golf team into fourth place after the first day of the Lonnie Barton Invitational at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final round set for 8:30 a.m. on the par-72 course.
Burak sits in seventh place – three shots off the pace set by LIU Brooklyn duo George Williams and Kyle Maihi. Eric Austin fired a 77 to rank in 12th place, while Patrick Lynch and Peter Repetto each shot an opening-round 84. Rounding out the scoring quintet for the Stags is Ricky Dowling, who carded an 86 for the Stags.
In other individual performances, Fairfield’s Alex Ferrante is currently seven shots back, tied for 23rd place with a first-round 80.
The Stags’ total of 321 strokes ties them for fourth place alongside Siena. Led by the current co-leaders, the hosts from LIU Brooklyn hold a 10-stroke lead over the field with a 298.
After this week’s action in Florida, the Stags will return to the links on March 28-29 at the Whiting-Turner Invitational in Grasonville, Maryland.
