Men's Tennis Falls to Marist 6-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's tennis team fell, 6-1, to Metro Atlantic Athletic Center (MAAC) foe Marist on Monday, March 30 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.

The Stags’ lone point came at No. 1 singles where rookie Brad Orban defeated the Red Foxes’ Justin Chanthalangsy by a count of 6-4, 6-1.

The Fairfield duo of Ofir Solomon and Cameron Amyot fell to Marist’s Fredrik Bjerke and Joe Motta, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot while the Stags’ Orban and George Tioutine were defeated, 8-2, by the Red Foxes’ Chanthalangsy and Matteo Giudici in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, Dylan Appel and Luke Lemieux were edged by Marist’s Rudolf Kurz and Dylan Fletcher, 8-7(6).

At No. 2 singles, Solomon fell to Kurz, 6-3, 7-6(6), while Tioutine fell to Bjerke by a count of 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. In the No. 4 slot was Amyot who was defeated by Joseph Dube, 6-1, 6-4, while Appel was edged, 6-4, 6-4, by Giudici in the No. 5 spot. Rounding out play for Fairfield was Peter Colliard who battled but ultimately fell to Marist’s Fletcher, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, in the No. 6 spot.

Fairfield (4-5; 2-1 MAAC) is scheduled to take conference action on the road. The Stags are slated to travel to Hamden, Conn. to take on MAAC foe Quinnipiac on Thursday, April 2 at 3:00 p.m.
