Men's Tennis Tops St. Peter's 6-1

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The Fairfield University men's tennis team topped Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe St. Peter’s, 6-1, on Saturday, February 28, for their first conference win of the 2015 campaign at the Yanitelli Bubble.

Fairfield swept the doubles point before posting singles victories in the No. 2 – No. 6 spots.

The Fairfield duo of Cameron Amyot and Ofir Solomon defeated St. Peter’s Carlos Carrera and Daniil Ivanov, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot while the Stags’ George Tioutine and Brad Orban notched an 8-4 win over the Peacocks’ Jorge Rodriguez and Andres Rojas in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 singles, rookies Dylan Appel and Luke Lemieux beat St. Peter’s Jonathan Paredes and Luke Whaley, 8-4.

At No. 1 singles, Solomon battled but ultimately fell, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, to Carrera while Orban defeated Ivanov, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 singles was Amyot who downed Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-0, while Tioutine defeated Whaley, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 4 spot. Rounding out play for Fairfield was Peter Colliard who downed Rojas, 6-4, 6-2, while Appel swept Paredes 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 slot.

Fairfield (2-3; 1-0 MAAC) will continue action on the road. The Stags will travel to Manchester, Conn. to take on UConn on Wednesday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m.
