EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University men’s and women’s golfers Ricky Dowling and Olivia Brooks were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Golfers of the Month for October. Brooks also earned Corvais ECAC Women's Co-Golfer of the Month accolades.
Dowling was crowned the 2014 ECAC Championships individual champion on September 30. He set a new competition course record with a final round 64 (-8) at the Lyman Orchards-Robert Trent Jones Course in Middlefield, Conn. The men’s golf team finished in second place with a collective score of 582 (288-294), just five strokes behind team champion University of Rhode Island. Dowling paced the Stags on the final day of competition, taking nine strokes off his first round score. The senior finished with an overall score of 139, to win ECAC All-Tournament Team honors.
Brooks also captured the 2014 ECAC Championships individual title on September 30, after carding a two-round score of 154 (79-75). She shot a second-round 75, her tournament best round, and earned ECAC All-Tournament Team honors. She paced the Stags to a first place team finish, with a collective 640 (326-314) on the Lyman Orchards-Robert Trent Jones Course.
Brooks continued her stellar play at the Delaware State Invitational on October 5-6. She shot a two-round score of 161 (82-79) to tie her for sixth overall. Brooks finished strong, helping the Stags to a second consecutive team crown, with a two-day team score of 630 (305-325) at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Course in Harbortown, Md.
At the Quinnipiac Invitational on October 20-21, Brooks carded a two-round score of 154 (75-79) to tie her for third overall. Brooks was the top finisher for Fairfield, leading the team to a third team champion title this fall, with a collective team score of 649 (318-331) on the par-70, 5,855 yard, TPC River Highlands Course in Cromwell, Conn.
The Fairfield men and women’s golf teams have now concluded their 2014 fall campaigns. The women had a successful fall run, in which they captured three team crowns and two individual titles while the men’s team captured one team title and two individual titles.
Senior Katie Rockwell led Fairfield to a team victory while capturing the individual title at the Delaware State Invitational. The women clinched their third team title at the Quinnipiac Invitational on October 21.
At the Rutgers Invitational, on September 19-20, senior Steve Burak took the individual title while pacing the Stags to third place finish and earning MAAC Golfer of the Month honors for September. The men’s golf team ended on a high note, as it captured the 80th annual NEIGA Championships title on October 27. Burak and rookie Eric Austin received All-New England Team - NCAA Division I honors for tying in fifth place overall with two-day scores of 149.
The men’s and women’s golf teams will return to the course in the spring of 2015.
