FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fourteen members of the Fairfield University Baseball team will compete around the region in various collegiate summer leagues. In total, the group will comprise eight different teams in four different leagues including the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL), and the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL).
"We're excited for our guys to get going with another season of summer baseball," Associate Head Coach and incoming Head Coach
Brian Fay said. "The summer is a key time for individual development as well as providing another opportunity for Stags to help an organization win a championship."
Fairfield's ace and the reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Year
Ben Alekson highlights the group as he will compete for the Harwich Mariners in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. Alekson, who tied the Fairfield all-time career wins record, is coming off another successful season that saw him lead the league with a 2.47 ERA. He earned All-MAAC First Team recognition and was also voted the MAAC Pitcher of the Year.
The Stags will have four Stags in the PGCBL with
Nolan Colby,
Jake Haarde,
Matthew Kurek, and
Connor Scanlan all competing for the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. The trio of Colby, Haarde, and Scanlan combined for 151 starts for the Stags while also posting 125 hits, 15 homers, 96 runs scored, and 82 RBI.
Fairfield will send another six pitchers to the NECBL with
Harrison Engle playing for the Mystic Schooners,
Hunter Hoxie lacing up for the Danbury Westeners,
Jimmy Mulvaney pitching for the Bristol Blues, and the trio of
Nick Kelly,
Brendon Miller, and
Jack Sheldon competing for the Vermont Mountaineers.
In total, the group combined for 265.1 innings during the year while posting 17 wins and striking out 216 batters. Engle led the group with 63.0 innings while tying for the team lead with seven wins earning his MAAC Rookie of the Year award.
Finally, three Stags will be represented in the FCBL with
Dominic Gabardi and
Carter Grande joining the Norwich Sea Unicorns and
Ryan Maiorano playing for the Nashua Silver Knights. Maiorano will look to continue his career spring season after leading the conference with eight saves, the third-most in a season in program history.
Fairfield is coming off their seventh-straight 30-win season while also appearing in the MAAC Championship series for the fourth-straight year. The 2026 season was the final in the illustrious career of
Bill Currier before turning over the leadership of the program to
Brian Fay, who spent the last eight years in the program while also being elevated to Associate Head Coach.
