FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Baseball outfielder Matthew Bucciero was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American First Team, representing some of the best student-athletes in the nation. Bucciero maintained a 3.83 grade point average while receiving a degree in Business Analytics from the Dolan School of Business. He joins the Division I First Team comprised of 14 student-athletes around the country. He becomes the ninth Stag, and second baseball player, to receive Academic All-American honors.
 
"Matt has put up arguably the best four-year stretch both athletically and academically in program history and now has another incredible accomplishment to put by his name," incoming Head Coach Brian Fay said. "Our coaching staff, alumni and his teammates continue to be proud of everything he has accomplished."
 
Bucciero amassed a 3.83 overall GPA after graduating from Fairfield's nationally-ranked Dolan School of Business as a Business Analytics major. On the field, the slugger rewrote the Fairfield record books, breaking the program's standards in: homers, RBI, total bases, runs scored, triples, and walks while also tying for the most hits in Fairfield history. He was also named the MAAC Player of the Year this season and was a three-time All-MAAC First Team, All-New England, All-Region, and All-ECAC honoree during his career.
 
Bucciero becomes the ninth Stag all-time and the first baseball player since Mike Caruso to earn Academic All-America accolades. He is just the second Stag ever to be named to the First Team, joining women soccer's Ahna Johnson in 2008.
 
In his career, Bucciero has helped the Stags to a MAAC tournament championship, a NCAA Regional appearance, two regular season titles, and four-straight 30-win seasons.
