FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Baseball right-hander
Harrison Engle was named to the Freshman All-American Second Team by Perfect Game College Baseball after his success during his rookie season. Engle, the MAAC Rookie of the Year, becomes the third Stag ever to receive All-American accolades and the first rookie in 15 years.
"It's great to see Harry recognized as one of the top freshmen in the country," incoming Head Coach
Brian Fay said. "He was promised an opportunity to come here and compete for meaningful time in his first year and he took full advantage of that opportunity. Harry's discipline, drive and attention to detail along with Coach Tilton's guidance are what put him into this spot. We're excited to see him continue to develop."
"Harry being recognized as a Freshman All-American is a tremendous honor and a reflection of his discipline and dedication," pitching coach
Chris Tilton said. "He took advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow throughout the season, ultimately earning a spot in our weekend rotation. We're incredibly proud of what he accomplished this year."
In his first collegiate season, Engle tied for the team lead with seven wins after posting a 7-2 record and placing second among Fairfield starters with a 3.71 ERA. All seven victories came against conference opponents, winning seven-straight decisions.
He allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his final six outings while going 5.2 innings in each start. He would record a 0.78 ERA with a 5-0 mark during that span. He struck out 59 hitters during his freshman season with a career-high nine against Saint Peter's.
He became the second Stag in program history to earn the MAAC Rookie of the Year award and the first in 15 years. He also becomes the second Stag to be named a freshman All-American and the first since Anthony Hajjar in 2010.
