Bucciero Drafted in 10th Round By Chicago White Sox

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Baseball outfielder Matthew Bucciero's dreams came true as the slugger was drafted in the 10th round by the Chicago White Sox in the 2026 MLB Amateur Draft. Bucciero becomes the 22nd Stag ever selected in the draft and the third to be picked in the top-10 rounds. Bucciero graduated from Fairfield as the program's all-time leader in: home runs (55), RBI (225), total bases (494), runs scored (221), triples (12), walks (153), and tied for the program standard with 271 hits.

"It's awesome and a dream come true," Bucciero said. "I'm really excited for what the future has in store. I'm extremely grateful to the White Sox for giving me an opportunity and can't wait to get after it."

"Our staff, players, and alumni are ecstatic for Matt!" incoming Head Coach Brian Fay said. "Matt chose Fairfield University out of high school and worked relentlessly for the past four years to turn his dream into a reality. The White Sox are getting a phenomenal player and an even better person. We're all looking forward to following Matt's professional career."

Bucciero enjoyed one of the best hitting careers in the history of Fairfield baseball, graduating as the program leader in seven categories. The reigning MAAC Player of the Year, Bucciero also earned three All-MAAC First Team selections, two All-Northeast Regional honors, and two ECAC All-Star accolades.

The outfielder also showed success in the classroom, becoming the program's second Academic All-American selection with First Team honors this season.

During his senior season, he was the only unanimous player on the All-MAAC First Team and led the conference in: home runs (20), RBI (57), and slugging percentage (.688), where he ranked top-50 nationally.

Bucciero becomes the third Stag ever selected inside the top-10 rounds of the MLB Draft and the first since Keefe Cato was a second-round pick in 1982.

He becomes the 22nd Stag selected in the MLB Draft with seven of those in the 15 years under retiring Head Coach Bill Currier.

Bucciero helped the Stags to four-straight 30 win seasons, two MAAC Regular Season Championships, and the 2025 MAAC Tournament Title and NCAA Regional appearance.
