Stags Start Final Conference Series at Sacred Heart Friday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The final MAAC series of the regular season brings the Fairfield University Baseball team a few miles up the road when they take on their crosstown rivals Sacred Heart. The series will begin with a Friday doubleheader at 11:30am and conclude on Saturday with a single game and first pitch at 1pm.

The Stags begin the series as one of three MAAC teams already clinching a spot in the MAAC Championships with their 18-9 league mark. Fairfield is currently a half a game behind second place – and a first-round bye – Niagara who are at home against Mount St. Mary's this weekend.

Fairfield have won six of their nine MAAC series this season and are coming off a series victory against Marist. Matthew Bucciero leads the team with a .321 average and an 1.100 OPS in conference games with 10 homers and 33 RBI. JP Kuczik has hit all four of his homers against MAAC competition and has driven in 32.

Sacred Heart brings a 12-14 MAAC record into the series, sitting in ninth in the standings. JW Fitzgerald is the team's leading hitter with a .324 average while Peter Link paces the Pioneers with 10 homers.

The reigning MAAC Champions will have their final tune-up before heading to the MAAC Championships which will be held at Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
