FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball will host the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers for a three-game set at Don and Chris Cook Field this weekend. The series is scheduled to start on Friday at 3pm with single games on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm. The two teams are both currently in the MAAC playoff picture with the Stags sitting in third place with a 10-5 league record.
The Stags have dropped three-straight contests including the final two games in their home series against Rider.
TJ Schmalzle leads the team with a .305 average while also lining a team-high 11 doubles.
Matthew Bucciero has hit three homers in his last five outings and his 10 long balls is the most in the conference.
As a team, the Stags are in a three-way tie for the most homers hit in the MAAC with 35.
On the mound, the Fairfield pitching staff continues to lead the conference in ERA (4.27) and WHIP (1.54).
Ben Alekson ranks second in the league with a 2.47 ERA which is also top-60 in the country.
The Mount brings a 17-16 record and a 10-8 mark into the series after sweeping Saint Peter's. Ty Fredo is the team's leading hitter with a .326 average along with six homers and 30 RBI.
Fairfield will have one midweek game next week as they travel to Fordham to take on the Rams on Tuesday at 3pm
