FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will open up their conference slate starting with a three-game series at Siena. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 11am and follow with a single game on Saturday at 1pm. All three games will take place on Robinson Field on the campus of RPI in Troy, N.Y.
The Stags are coming off a bounce-back win as they took down Elon 6-4 for their first win of the season.
TJ Schmalzle continued his hot hitting with three hits and two RBI while
Carter Grande connected on his first collegiate homer.
JP Kuczik also had a clutch hit, driving in two which extended the Fairfield lead to 6-2.
Ryan Maiorano picked up his first collegiate win with 1.2 innings while
Harrison Engle came in to get the final two outs and record his first career save.
Through the first eight games, the Stags have been led by their pitching which has recorded a MAAC-best 3.44 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Highlighting the staff has been two-time MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Ben Alekson who has not surrendered an earned run through his first 16.0 innings.
On the offensive side, Schmalzle leads the team with a .303 average on 10 hits and five RBI.
Siena is on a three-game winning streak after winning a series over UMass and a single game over Maryland Eastern Shore. Vincent Venditti is the team leader with a .385 average with five hits and seven runs scored.
The Stags will finish their road trip with a midweek contest at St. John's on Tuesday at 3pm.
