FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will travel to Vestal, N.Y., for a Sunday doubleheader against the Binghamton Bearcats starting at noon. The Stags were originally scheduled for three games on the weekend, but inclement weather forced the postponement of Friday and Saturday. Both contests will be seven innings.
The Stags come in winners of nine of their last 10 games to bring their season mark back to .500 at 10-10. Fairfield's last win was an historic victory as it gave Head Coach
Bill Currier his 900th career win. Currier becomes the 15th active Division I head coach to reach the mark.
Another historic feat achieved in their win against Central Connecticut was
Matthew Bucciero breaking the program's all-time career home run record with his 41st long ball. Bucciero launched the historic homer in the eighth inning to cap the scoring of a 12-3 win. Bucciero now holds the Fairfield career records for: homers, RBI, runs scored, total bases, and triples.
Fairfield had 16 baserunners in their win over the Blue Devils with 11 hits and five walks. They also kept the pressure on the base paths with three stolen bases while advancing on four wild pitches. Over their last four wins, Fairfield has reached base 85 times with 48 hits, 24 walks, and eight hit batters. Bucciero leads the group during that stretch with a .563 average and a .682 on-base percentage.
The Bearcats bring in a 9-11 overall record with a 3-3 mark in the America East. They have won three-straight which includes a series win over UMass Lowell. Matt Bolton is the team's leading hitter with a .338 average in 80 at-bats.
Fairfield will return home for a midweek game against Yale on Tuesday at 2pm before hitting the road for a MAAC series against Merrimack on Thursday.
