Bucciero, Currier Set Career Milestones in Win Over CCSU

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Head Coach Bill Currier and senior outfielder Matthew Bucciero both set career milestones with Currier getting career win number 900 and Bucciero slugging his 41st career homer to becoming the program's new home run king in a 12-3 victory over CCSU. Currier becomes the 15th active Division I skipper to reach the 900 win mark.

"It was a good midweek win and we used a lot of pitchers and they all did their job," Currier said. "They limited the other team to a few runs and they had a good week as a staff. The hitters certainly provided a little bit of power and ran the bases well."

"It feels great an I'm glad I was able to do it today," Bucciero said. "My grandfather passed away last week and we just had the mass this morning. It was great to do it today in his honor. It was obviously very emotional but it feels great."

Bucciero hit the historic homer to cap a 12-run barrage for the Stags, who won their ninth game in their last 10 outings.

Fairfield scored all of their 12 runs unanswered after the Blue Devils opened the scoring with three in the first. Dom Camera, JP Kuczik, and Luke Nomura all hit sacrifice flies. Connor Scanlan ha a big day with a solo homer in the seventh and a RBI single in the fifth. TJ Schmalzle added a RBI double right in front of Bucciero's two run homer in the eighth.

On the mound, the trio of Nick Kelly, Alex Frank, and Ryan Maiorano combined for six innings of shutout relief with each pitcher tossing 2.0 innings.

Bucciero led the Stags with three hits and three runs scored.

Fairfield, winners of nine of their last 10 games, will have a bye week from conference play, playing three games in Vestal, N.Y., starting with a game against Binghamton on Friday at 1pm.
