FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will host in-state foe Central Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon at 3pm on Don '63 and Chris Cook '88 Field. Fairfield enters the contest winners of eight of their last nine games after sweeping Saint Peter's over the weekend.
The Stags batted .333 while pounding out 37 hits during their series against the Peacocks, scoring 35 runs. Five different Stags recorded a batting average over .350 with
Matthew Bucciero leading the group with a .545 clip in 11 at-bats.
JP Kuczik had a team-high eight RBI with a .462 average.
As a team, the Stags reached base 69 times with 37 hits, 24 walks, and eight hit batters. Fairfield would keep the pressure on the defense, going 16-for-16 in their stolen base attempts.
On the pitching side, the Fairfield bullpen allowed one earned run in 13.2 innings.
Jimmy Mulvaney,
Harrison Engle, and
Will Youngman each went multiple innings, with a 0.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
With the sweep, the Stags have won eight of their last nine games including seven-straight MAAC victories.
CCSU brings a 5-8 overall record after a series loss to LIU. Antonio Ducatelli leads the team with a .353 average with 18 hits.
The Stags will spend their conference bye week in Vestal, N.Y., to take on the host Binghamton Bearcats and Seton Hall.
