Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y.-For the second straight match on a busy Sunday of action, the Stags' doubles teams earned a point, as Fairfield men's tennis (0-4) wrapped up a two-match day with a 4-1 loss to host and undefeated Army West Point (7-0) at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The visitors earned the doubles point against the host Black Knights, as
Alex Aguiar and
Calum Jessett prevailed as the number one duo, 6-4, and
Luca Benaibbouche plus
Kostas Kollias won at number two by the same score.
At number three doubles, the team of
Diego Alcala and
Domagoj Stabek led 5-4 in a match that was left unfinished due to the point being decided.
The undefeated Black Knights stormed back on their home indoor courts to win the match by posting a sweep in singles against the Stags.
At number one,
Diego Alcala fell, 3-6, 1-6; while in the number two position,
Calum Jessett was tripped up, 0-6, 5-7.
Army West Point brought home the win late on Sunday, as both
Alexander Di Staulo and
Kostas Kollias battled at number six and number three singles respectively before falling, as Di Staulo was defeated, 5-7, 5-7, and Kollias went down by a 5-7, 3-6 score.
Two matches were left unfinished in singles, as in the four slot,
Luca Benaibbouche split the first two sets with his opponent, 3-6, 6-3 and trailed 1-4 in the third, and
Zach Whittington did the same at number five singles, 6-3, 3-6 and trailed 1-3.
Up next, the Stags are back in action on Sunday night, February 15 at the Tennis Club of Trumbull, as Fairfield will host Hofstra at 5:00 p.m.
