EDISON, N.J. – After earning victories in singles and doubles for Fairfield University Women's Tennis last week, Sophia Harris has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Harris picked up wins in both of her matches on Saturday against Rhode Island.
 
Harris piloted the #2 singles spot against URI, where she rallied to a three-set win over the Rams' Grace Darcy – 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5. At #2 doubles, Harris teamed with Sarah Liu for a 6-1 win over Darcy and Anastasia Pettersson.
 
Earlier in the week, Harris played #3 singles and #2 doubles at Big East foes UConn and St. John's.
 
The wins over Rhode Island were Harris's first of the spring season. In the fall, she teamed with fellow freshman Regina Herrera to reach the semifinals of the MAAC Masters Doubles Tournament.
 
Fairfield Women's Tennis returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 for a 2 p.m. match at Army West Point.
