ELON, N.C. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will play their third-straight series in the Carolinas when they travel to Elon N.C., to face the Phoenix for a three-game set starting on Friday at 4pm. The middle game will be Saturday at 1pm with the finale coming on Sunday at noon.
Through the first five games of the season, the Stags have three players batting over .300 with
TJ Schmalzle leading the squad with a .350 average. He is also tied for the team lead with two home runs, both coming in his last game against Davidson.
Matthew Bucciero leads the team with a 1.226 OPS with two homers and a team-high tying three walks.
On the pitching side,
Ben Alekson has not allowed an earned run this season in his 11.0 innings. He has also struck out a team-high 12 batters and was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Week earlier this year.
Hunter Hoxie has pitched to a 1.17 ERA in his 7.2 frames with hitters batting .192.
Elon brings a 4-4 record into the series after sweeping Delaware in the opening series while also picking up a victory against Presbyterian.
The series will also be a family battle with
Luke Nomura's brother, Sam Nomura, leading the Phoenix with four appearances out of the bullpen while pitching to a 0.72 WHIP and a 0.00 ERA.
The Stags will now return to the Northeast facing Central Connecticut State on Tuesday at 3pm before opening up their MAAC slate against Siena next weekend.
